Spain offers great diversity including vibrant Mediterannean Barcelona, the “old world” Andalusian jewels of Seville, Granada and Cordoba, the sensational Basque region and much more. Thanks to its rich history and varied topography, Spain similarly offers a great diversity of epicurean pleasures that we can help you experience along with its rich culture. Some of our very favorite Spain culinary and wine travel program elements for clients include the following

  • Absorbing the dynamic sights, sounds and smells of the fabulous Boqueria market located just off Barcelona’s La Rambla. Food, fresh from the field and sea, has been sold here for more than 500 years
  • A private Tempranillo tasting with chorizo and Basque cheese pairings in a centuries-old private cellar winery of the quaint wine village of Laguardia in enchanting La Rioja wine country
  • Private cooking lessons that explore the exotic cuisine of Andalusia, the Mediterranean-inspired flavors of Catalonia or epicurean masterpieces from the Basque region
  • Enjoying “locals-only” tapas establishments in Seville (the birthplace of tapas) with a culinary guide to sample divine creations like jabugo ham, croquettes and pescaito frito accompanied by a glass of fino
  • Lunch of fish chargrilled outdoors on the harbor of the old Basque town of Getaria followed by a visit to a Basque cheesmaker and a private tasting at a delightful, family-run Txakoli vineyard in the green hills above Zarautz

Ask the great chefs of Europe to identify the most innovative cuisine of the moment and they will point to Spain where, more than 10 years ago, celebrated chef Ferran Adria began captivating the culinary world with his nueva cocina style, fusing non-traditional ingredients and introducing novel techniques to the kitchen. This style is most pronounced in Adria’s home region of Catalonia, but has spread to other parts of Spain and has influenced chefs worldwide. Spain’s other gastronomic highlights include Andalusia, which features the colorful and piquant cuisine that bears the culinary imprint of the 500-year occupation of the Moors and, of course, the great Basque region that includes the elegant Belle Epoque seaside resort of San Sebastian.

CORK & FORK is delighted by the increasing attention that Spanish wines are receiving on the world wine stage. Both La Rioja and Ribera del Duero are wonderful to visit, but we also highly recommend beautiful Priorat in southern Catalonia, which is a Robert Parker favorite and full of exceptional Grenache blended with Carignan, Cab and Syrah. It’s hard to get more off the beaten path than this.

We’ll help you experience not only the tastes and flavors of Spain, but also its art, architecture and history via our handpicked cultural guides. Viva Espana!
